Welcome to the Sondes Arms
A warm welcome awaits from Deanna, John and the team at The Sondes Arms an Inn for all seasons since 1677, built shortly after the civil war along with the rest of Rockingham village, Nestling at the foot of Rockingham Castle in the Welland valley on the edge of Northamptonshire a short step from both Rutland & Leicestershire.
Originally a coaching Inn where the main coachway doors are still hanging and the wheel ruts are still visible in the field behind but now with its past evident all around it's a relaxing local offering a comfortable fireside drink with you dog, a quiet romantic meal for two, that 60th birthday celebration meal, wedding reception or a corporate function.
A frequent destination for Charles Dickens whom, it is said, wrote a number of poems and parts of his novel bleak house whilst having his tipple in what we call the "Dickens room". Moving forwards a hundred or so years Clarke Gable, the hollywood star, chose the Sondes Arms as his local to challenge regulars to his favourite game of darts whilst stationed in the UK for his mlilitary service, based only few miles away.

We are proud to be a Charles Wells Pub and offer a range of their cask ales, which do change so please ask whats on, along with a great selection of lagers and bottled beers as well as a full bar for your enjoyment. All our ales and lagers are cask marque checked and approved. All our meals are prepared using the finest ingredients, sourced locally wherever possible. Our labour and servicing are also sourced localy.
We are also strong believers in supporting local charities and host a number of fundraising events throughout the year. We hope you enjoy our website and look forward to welcoming you to the Sondes arms, please dont hesitate to contact us with your requirements for celebration or corporte dining, Weddings or funerals. Any old photographs of your past events at the Sondes Arms would be great to add to our collection to show the Sondes Arms through the decades.Thank you
